The U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on 19 entities operating in Burma and Cambodia, targeting crypto scam operations responsible for an estimated $10 billion in losses to Americans. Blockchain intelligence firm Chainalysis identified these groups as orchestrators of large-scale 'pig butchering' scams, which blend online romance tactics with fraudulent cryptocurrency investments.

Victims are lured into emotional relationships before being persuaded to invest in fake crypto schemes. The FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center reported over $700 million lost to romance scams and $2.5 billion to crypto investment fraud in 2022 alone, underscoring the growing role of digital assets in financial crimes targeting U.S. citizens.

KK Park, a notorious compound in Myanmar's Myawaddy region, has been linked to these operations, housing over 2,000 trafficked workers forced to participate in scam labor. The global impact extends beyond the U.S., with countries like China also facing significant threats from these organized crypto fraud networks.
